Night World series by L.J. Smith [Book 07-09]

Here is another summary or Night World series. The last 4 book is focused on Wild Powers, the power to save the world -- or destroy it.

Prologue:

The Night World.. Love was never so scary.
The Night World isn't a place. It's all around us. It's a secret society of vampires, werewolves, witches, and other creatures of darkness that live among us. They're beautiful and deadly and irresistible to humans. Your high school teacher could be one, and so could your boyfriend.The Night World laws say it's okay to hunt humans. It's okay to toy with their hearts, it's even okay to kill them.
There are only two things you can't do with them.

1. Never let them find out the Night World exists.
2. Never fall in love with one of them.

These are stories about what happens when the rules get broken.

#7. Huntress

Jezebel Redfern used to be so sure in herself, she used to be a ruthless vampire, a leader of a dangerous vampire gang. But when she discover her real heritage, that she is a half-vampire, half-human, a product of a marriage between a vampire and a human, something that thought to be impossible and also illegal in the Night World law, she feels immense guilt for all her action as a ruthless vampire. She decided to forsake her gang, gives up drinking blood and joining the Circle Daybreak, the last Witch Circle, but it's not only for witches, its welcomes every human, vampire, werewolf, and shapeshifter that wished for peace between each race. The majority of the Circle Daybreak is still questioning her intention and can't believe that she's change for good, but she still completed all the job asked to her with her friend, Hugh Davis, an Old Soul as a go-between.

When the Circle Daybreak got a lead on the first Wild Powers, one of four people that can decide the fate of the world is in the hands of Jez's former second-in-command, rival and her soulmate, a ruthless vampire named Morgead Blackthorn, she is forced to rejoin her old gang in order to acquire and protect the Wild Power, a sweet little girl with an Old Soul, Iona Skelton, which turns out isn't one of the Wild Powers. She must keep her stubborn human cousin, Claire Goddard, that insist on following her safe, find the Wild Power and somehow hide her true heritage from Morgead, things can't be more complicated, can it?

When Maggie Neely's brother, Miles's girlfriend, Sylvia Weald came to their home in tears and tell their family that Miles is dead in a climbing accident in Halloween night, Maggie knows that something is not right. Her brother is not a careless person, he's very smart and careful. Maggie decided to follow Sylvia to her dorm and she found out that Sylvia is lying and she won't tell her what happen with her brother. Sylvia drugged her and sent her to the Dark Kingdom to make her a slave. She woke up on the way to the castle in a crate with 3 other girls, Jeanne, P.J. and a blind girl Aradia (which Maggie mistakenly thought that her name is Arcadia, and then called her Cady) She convince them to work together and run away.

When they are running from the hunter, Maggie and Aradia got separated from Jeanne and P.J.. She meet the Dark Kingdom Prince and one of the wild power, Delos Redfern and discover that they are soulmates. Even though Delos violently denies the fact, he still protect her from danger. Maggie and Aradia was able to meet up with Jeanne and P.J. again, but when Aradia health deteriorated, Maggie decided to go to the castle so that Aradia can get help. When the other slaves see Maggie's cloth --flowered pajama top, jeans and mismatched socks-- they are convinced that Maggie is "The Deliverer" in their prophecy who came to free them all.

Maggie the fearless, impulsive girl she is decided to go inside the castle to find Delos and convinced him to help her and save the world, but the worst thing is yet to come. Sylvia binds Delos power, his Wild Power and vampire power with ancient magic, making him as vulnerable as human, Hunter Redfern is attempting to control Delos's Wild Power to control the world, and Delos shut Maggie in a dungeon in a desperate attempt to save her life.

#9. Witchlight
The soulmates in this book:
Panther Shapeshifter: Raksha Keller
Leopard/Draconian Shapeshifter: Galen Drache

Circle Daybreak manages to locate the third Wild Power, a "lost witch", Iliana Dominick. They sent Raksha Keller --or just Keller--, a seventeen year old panther shapeshifter, along with her teammate, a witch, Winfrith "Winnie" Arlin, and a vampire, Nissa Johnson, to find and protect Iliana. They encounter some problem when trying to rescue Iliana, and Keller almost dead when fighting a very powerful, dangerous, and very evil dragon shapeshifter, the one that used to rule the shapeshifters and the world before being put to sleep by Hecate Witch-Queen, mother of Hellewise Hearth-Woman. She is saved by Galen Drache, which later on revealed as the shapeshifter Prince and have draconian heritage. They managed to get into the safe house, and they explain the situation to Iliana that she is the Witch Child and she is destined to marry the son of the First House of the Shapeshifter. Iliana goes into hysterical denial of everything. Grandma Harman tries to calm her, but Iliana is unable to calm down. Grandma Harman then asked Keller to sent Iliana  home, which enrage her, worse, Galen wanted to come too. Keller angrily states that unless under a direct order of Thierry Descouedres, Hannah Snow or the First House of Shapeshifters, she won't let him follow them and possibly compromise the mission. Galen reluctantly tell them who he really is, and Keller, humiliated and angry, stiffly pledges herself to Galen's service, despite his misery at her being furious with him.
When Keller offers to escort Grandma Harman back, the safe house is assailed by Night World operatives. Nissa and Winnie manages to escape with Iliana, but Galen fight his way back to protect Grandma Harman. As the house comes down, Keller shapeshifts and protect both Grandma Harman and Galen, which knocks her out. She regains consciousness at the Dominick household after being saved by her teammates. Galen bring her to the house library to express his gratitude to Keller for trying to protect him and they found out that they are soulmates. But Galen is the Prince of shapeshifters and he is destined to marry the Witch Child, Iliana --who seems to be attracted and may be in love with him-- to unite the shapeshifters and the witch, not to mention that the world is on the verge of Apocalypse and the most evil and powerful of all shapeshifters, the dragon shapeshifters is walking the earth again.

So 3 out of 4 Wild Powers is discovered and protected by Circle Daybreak, but there still one more, and the Circle Daybreak have to get the last Wild Power and protect him/her. The prophecy said that four less one and darkness triumphs. In order to save the world, they must get all the Wild Powers, and they can't afford to lose because the fate of the world is depending on it.

These 3 books is my favorite out of 9 available books from the Night World series. I can't wait for the last book, Strange Fate. I hope L.J. Smith won't take too long to finish this book.
